What have we lost in exchange for having every food available, all the time? In a food system based on quantity and convenience, things like flavor, nutrition, food diversity, and human connection are compromised. As control over our food supply becomes increasingly concentrated in the hands of mega-corporations, I ask: how do we opt out of that system? And how, instead, do we opt in to supporting the farmers who actually grow our food?

In this episode, I sit down with Scheereen Dedman, a board member of the Port Orchard Farmers Market, to talk about a powerful alternative to big-box grocery stores: farmers markets. Scheereen is also co-owner of Sierra Serenity, a shop that specializes in natural home and self-care, as well as tea blends that are delicious (I can say from experience!). From building community to keeping the market accessible, we discuss the variety of vendors you'll find at the market, and why produce that's grown locally often tastes better and can be more affordable than what's on big-box shelves.
